QUETTA: Minister for States and Frontier Regions retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch laid the foundation stone of the 200km Kharan-Yak Mach road project on Wednesday.
The project will cost Rs 12 billion.
Speaking on the occasion, the federal minister said the 24-foot wide road would open new vistas of development in the area.
“The road passing through Shaho Gari, New Jangian, Kharmagai, Alochah and Dostain Wadha will provide great benefits to the area by boosting local economy and triggering trade activities,” he said.
He said that Kharan-Yak Mach road would help connect the region with Karachi as well as Iran.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been taking special interest in launching mega development projects in Balochistan to remove the sense of deprivation,” he said.
The minister said road projects would bring Balochistan at par with other provinces in terms of development and trade.
Frontier Corps Commandant Col Shahid Manzoor, Kalat Commissioner Dr Akbar Harifal, MPA Abdul Kareem Nosherwani and officials of the National Highway Authority were also present on the occasion.
