ISLAMABAD: Former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir has called for the removal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee for selecting below-par players for the Asia Cup.

“Selectors don’t have any vision in mind while they include or exclude players from the team,” Qadir said while speaking about the national squad announced for the World Twenty20.

He said firstly the selection committee should be held accountable for what they did to the team in the Asia Cup.

“It is just because of the undeserving players included in the squad by the selectors that cost Pakistan in the Asia Cup,” he said.

Qadir questioned, “If they were to call Ahmed Shahzad back in the World T20 squad then why didn’t they include him in the Asia Cup?”

He added, “Including Khurram Manzoor for the Asia Cup was a big mistake.”

The former leg-break bowler said the selection committee was just a dummy and all actions were being taken by the chairman and other top officials.

“The selectors are helpless against the chairman and other top officials as they have to entertain those players in the squad whose names are sent by the high-ups,” he added.

Qadir said same was the case when Azhar Ali was named the ODI captain which was a big surprise as he was not in the squad named initially.

“Our selectors are committed to do blunders,” he said.

He also questioned the PCB about the input given by Pakistan Super League ambassadors Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja.

Qadir also lashed out at the T20 skipper Shahid Afridi, who directly called on the patron’s (Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif) intervention to promote local talent in the country.
