MIRPURKHAS, Nov 9: The Taluka municipal administration has awarded lease of a large plot to a local contractor without seeking the approval of the taluka council, it was learnt.

Sources told this correspondent that a large parking plot, located next to the Gama Stadium, had been lying vacant for the last many years.

Despite a ban on lease of plots, the TMA had leased it to a local contractor without the consent of the Taluka council, the sources said.

Residents of the area, expressing their concern over the illegal step taken by the TMA, have urged the governor and the chief minister of Sindh to protect the land of the city and also order an impartial investigation into the matter.

They were of the opinion that the lease should be cancelled forthwith.

FIR: The Kot Ghulam Mohammad police, on the complaint of Habib Lashari, have registered an FIR of the murder of his son, Haji Khan Lashari.

The complainant said that he had been informed that his son, who was missing since June, had been murdered.

He nominated Niaz Mohammad Lashari in the FIR.

Meanwhile, the police recovered the body of a new-born baby from a garbage dump in Umerkot on Saturday.

SELF-IMMOLATION: Two brothers suffered burn injuries when one of them tried to commit self-immolation in Lalchandabad here on Friday.

Nabi Bakhsh Mallah, 20, was demanding money from his mother for setting up business.

When she refused, he sprinkled kerosene on himself and put himself on fire.

His brother, Shafi Bakhsh Mallah, who was in the other room, rushed to save him and also sustained burn injuries.

They were rushed to the Civil Hospital.

Shafi was discharged after first aid while Nabi Bakhsh was referred to a hospital in Hyderabad as his condition was critical.
