KARACHI, Nov 8: The city government on Saturday chalked out a plan to beautify the city’s entry point at Sohrab Goth and other intersections linking Super Highway (from Sohrab Goth to Toll Plaza).
The plan’s salient features include removal of an unauthorised bus terminus and a reti-bajri truck stand from Sohrab Goth, construction of a model bus stop, beautification of Super Highway (from Sohrab Goth to Toll Plaza) after removing encroachments, improvement and beautification of Super Highway — Abul Isphani Road traffic intersection and construction of a pedestrian bridge.
At a follow-up meeting held here on Saturday DCO Hussain Ali also directed the CDGK’s transport department to immediately chalk out a plan aimed at improving flow of traffic at Sohrab Goth and at other roads linking Super Highway.
Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, while chairing a high-level meeting a couple of days back, had asked the DCO to expedite the Sohrab Goth improvement and beautification plan as it had been lingering on since 1999.
Although Sindh’s two former governors, Moeenuddin Haider and Mohammedmian Soomro, had also issued similar directives during their tenure of offices, the authorities have so far failed to accomplish the plan which included development of a park on 20 acres of land lying unused at Sohrab Goth.
The Saturday’s meeting also exhorted the traffic police to ensure implementation of traffic laws in letter and spirit to avoid any mishap at the busy Sohrab Goth and at other major roads which link with the Super Highway.
The National Highway Authority’s general manager apprised the meeting of the measures being taken for the beautification of Super Highway.
The meeting was attended, among others, by the CDGK’s executive district officers of transport, master plan and law departments and officials of the revenue department.
