ISLAMABAD: The Kohsar police have registered a case against the kidnapping of Afghan politician Fazalullah Wahidi, who served as governor of Kunar and Herat provinces, police said on Saturday.

However, the investigators were clueless about the abductors and the reason behind the politician’s abduction, the police said.

Mr Wahidi was living in F-7/2 and was with his grandson near Rana Market when two vehicles, one a black double cabin with a blue revolving light and the other a white Toyota Corolla, stopped by him.

Three people got out of the cars and forced Mr Wahidi into the double cabin before driving off. The former governor’s nephew, Syed Zabhiullah Wahidi, had lodged a complaint with the Kohsar police station.

Preliminary investigations suggest that he came to Islamabad six days ago and stayed at a guest house, the police said, adding that later his daughter and her family also joined him.

The investigators prepared sketches of the culprits with the help of his grandson, the sources said, adding the family of the victim was unaware of any threat the former governor had ever received, they said.

The investigators are collecting details about his engagements in the capital, including meeting with people and his incoming and outgoing phone calls, the sources said. Besides the identities of the people who visited him at the guest house were also being ascertained, the sources said.
