PESHAWAR: Members of both the treasury and opposition benches in the Peshawar district council on Wednesday complained about the government’s failure to fulfil its commitment on the provision of offices, funds and powers to them.

Some of them walked out of the house to protest denial of facilities.

Razaullah Khan of PPP said the government had failed to implement the Local Government Act in real sense.

He said local government representatives didn’t get proper funds and offices and therefore, they’re unable to serve the people at the grassroots level.

Opposition members stage a walkout

Opposition member Abdul Maalik Khan said many posts of teachers had long been lying vacant in many government schools in Peshawar but the government was not bothered about filling the vacancies to the misery of students.

He warned the opposition members would step down if their demands were not met.

PTI member from Shaikhan union council Fazalullah said some people in his area recently subjected him to violence when he was supervising the installation of a power transformer but the police didn’t acted against them despite his repeated requests.

“I have spent 15 years in the US and joined the PTI after being impressed by Imran Khan’s vision but the government’s failure to ensure dispensation of justice to me has forced me to say goodbye to the party,” he said.

He also resigned as the chairman of the primary education committee, saying the district education officer was reluctant to cooperate with him in education reforms especially on improvement of education standards in schools.

District nazim Arbab Asim assured him of the necessary action on his complaints.

Safdar Baghi of the ANP complained a primary school had been moved out of his constituency, which was a big injustice to the local people.

Many opposition members including Firdous Khan and Saeedur Rehman Safi later staged a walkout over non-provision of powers, funds and offices.

District naib nazim and council convener Syed Qasim Shah adjourned the meeting until today (Thursday).
