Swan bags Pakistan’s first SAG gold

GUWAHATI: Pakistan’s Lianna Catherine Swan won Pakistan’s first gold of the South Asian Games when she swam to victory in the women’s 200m breaststroke on Saturday.

On a day when Pakistan won two silvers and three bronze, Swan was outstanding as she won at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex in 2:48.85, ahead of Sri Lankan Hasanthi Nugawela (2:49.17) and Bangladesh’s Romana Akter (2:49.60).

Also in the pool, Pakistan took bronze in the 4x100m freestyle.

Another bronze for the country went to Sabiha Bibi in the 30m individual time trial cycling event at the Lakshmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education.

At the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium, Pakistan’s Abdullah Ghafoor finished third in the 56kg weightlifting event.

Both silvers for Pakistan came in wrestling with Mohammad Bilal losing to Ravinder in the 57kg freestyle final and Nadir falling to Rajneesh in the 65kg gold medal match.
