PESHAWAR, Nov 7: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Friday said the government alone could not provide resources for social welfare activities and stressed philanthropists’ role in this regard.

Talking to a 12-member delegation of the Ittefaq Kidney Centre headed by Abdul Hameed Gurwara, he hoped that philanthropists and the well-to-do segment of society would assist the government in providing modern health care facilities to needy patients.

The governor described the establishment of the kidney centre as a unique effort in the province. The government has already provided a four-Kanal plot and Rs2 million for the construction of the kidney center at Gulbahar Colony.

Mr Gurwara said the first phase of the Rs25 million project would be ready before Eid. He said the project, comprising two operation theatres and an intensive care unit, would be completed by June.

JIRGA CONSTITUTED: The governor has constituted a Jirga to resolve an old land dispute between the residents of Shaikhan Mattani village and respective tribes of the Khyber Agency.

Talking to a 10-member delegation of the village elders, the governor directed the authorities to create a congenial atmosphere to ensure smooth functioning of the Jirga.
