BOSTON: The Karachi Grammar School (KGS) won the best international delegation award at the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) 2016.

HMUN is a four-day international relations simulation for high school students held annually in downtown Boston.

Aysha Sheikh, a teacher at KGS who has been training the team, told Dawn.com: “The KGS team has been working very hard for over a year now – we have won every single MUN competition held in Karachi plus the HMUN China in Mar 2015.

“We are all very proud to bring laurels home for Pakistan and to raise our flag on an international forum where delegations of over 1,800 students and faculty advisers accorded both our country and our schools with respect.”

Sheikh was also invited to the event in Boston as part of the faculty panel to share her experience of managing and training MUN teams.

“HMUN Boston was an amazing experience. The students interacted with schools from several countries and were up against the best,” she said.

The 63rd session of HMUN, held at the Sheraton Boston Hotel under the guidance of a staff of more than 200 Harvard University undergraduates from Jan 28 to Jan 31, was attended by more than 3,000 high school students from more than 200 high schools around the world.

Another school from Pakistan – The Lyceum – won the best small delegation award at the event.

At HMUN, delegates gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets.

The KGS winning team members are: Channan Hanif, Ghasharib Shoukat, Zarak Qureshi, Uzair Saqib, Rahul Bherwani, Taimur Ahmed Mian, Zainab Sadia Saeed, Hakim Baloch, Laleh Ahmed, Suroor Rahimtoola, Nasha Kanga, Leila Khan, Riva Effandi and Shahzel Najam.
