India capture U-19 Asia Cup

LAHORE, Nov 6: An explosive knock by opener Robin Uthappa guided India to capture Underer-19 Asia Cup crushing Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.

Uthappa, named Man-of-the-Match slammed 13 boundaries in his 86-ball 88, as India raced to 229 for two with 5.2 overs to spare chasing Sri Lanka’s 225.

The victory was also a sweet revenge for Indians who earlier had lost to Sri Lanka in the qualifying round.

Indian skipper AT Rayudu who scored unbeaten 57  and  Rakesh Solanki who made

undefeated 56 ensured victory putting on 93-run for third wicket.

Rayudu smashed seven boundaries and two huge sixes in his 53-ball knock. 

Solanki played a patient knock and hit only two fours  in 95-ball inning.

India after winning the toss and decided to field and the decision worked well as Sri Lanka lost four wickets for 43 by the 12th over.

Sri Lanka recovered through skipper Farvaiz Maharoof (57 off 67 deliveries) and Ratnayake (45 off 67 balls) who put 100 for the fifth wicket wicket to lift the total to 143.

The dismissal of Maharoof and Ratanayke triggered another collapse and the whole team was out for 225 in 49.4 overs.

Irfan Pathan adjudged Man-of-the-Tournament finished the competition with 18 wickets for 133 runs.
