Two ties decided on opening day
KARACHI: Two matches were decided at the start of the third Bilal Bhaty Inter-school/collegiate T20 Cricket tournament here on Monday.
In the opening game at the Moin Khan DHA Cricket Academy, Cedar College defeated D.A. College by nine wickets in Group ‘C’.
Wasi Hasan Shah took 4-13 and Burhan Khan 3-9 as D.A. College were all out for 134 in 19.4 overs with Faraz Ahmed Gichki making 51 (three fours and two sixes).
Cedar College reached their target comfortably in the 17th overs with Umar Athar (47, four boundaries) and Anzal Abbas (44 not out, three fours) batting well.
Abdullah Aziz starred with fine bowling figures of 5-15 to help City School Darakhshan Campus crush Wales College by nine wickets in the Group ‘B’ fixture at the IBA Karachi University Ground.
Batting first, Wales College mustered 94 all out in 18.1 overs. City School Darakhshan Campus won the game in 11.1 overs with Saad Paracha striking three fours and one six in an unbeaten 45.
The tournament is being organised by Bob Woolmer Memorial Cricket Club.

NBP triumph in academy cricket
KARACHI: A fine all-round performance from Kamran Rehman guided National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Cricket Academy to a five-wicket victory over Southend Club Cricket Academy in the latest fixture of the second Inter-academy Cricket League here the other day.
Batting first at the Southend Club Cricket Ground, hosts Southend academy collected 234-7 in the stipulated 40 overs with Afnan Karim (76 off 84 balls, 10 boundaries) and Rafay Khalil (53 off 40, two sixes ad two fours) their leading run-getters.
Kamran grabbed four wickets for 41 runs.
NBP academy, in their chase, reached the target of 235 in 38.5 overs while losing five wickets. Usama Ali, who was later adjudged man-of-the-match, led the way by scoring 83 from 92 deliveries with nine fours. Ali Haider bludgeoned 11 boundaries in a belligerent 36-ball knock of 59, while Kamran contributed 55 off 68 balls with seven hits to the fence.
NBP academy collected 20 points while Southend academy got 12.
The competition, coined by former Pakistan fast bowler Jalaluddin who has the distinction of claiming the first hat-trick in One-day Internationals, is being organized by the Customs Cricket Academy.

Camp for wheelchair cricketers
MIRPURKHAS: A one-day wheelchair cricket coaching clinic and training camp was held at Gama Stadium here on Monday.
The camp was set up by the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Association in collaboration with the sports department of the government of Sindh to spot talent for national team’s proposed three-match series in Sri Lanka scheduled for March.
Dozens of wheelchair cricketers belonging to Mirpurkhas, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Digri and other areas participated in the camp where they were given training of batting, bowling and fielding by specialised coaches Faizan Bakar and Muzammil Saqib.
Speaking at the certificates distribution ceremony after the camp, Mohammad Zeeshan, president of the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Association, said there was a need of more such camps in the interior of Sindh, emphasising there was a lot of talent available there and needed to be tapped.
Patron of Gulistan-e-Mazoreen centre Mirpurkhas, Afaq Ahmed Khan, urged the government to ensure holding of more camps like this in interior Sindh.
Later, certificates were distributed among the participating wheelchair cricketers.—Correspondent

LAHORE: A number of matches were decided in different age groups on the second day of the Second Alam Al Khayal Junior National Tennis Championships at the Bagh-i-Jinnah grassy courts here on Monday.
According to the tournament director, more than 100 players are competing in the tournament.

Hockey trials for Sindh, Balochistan
LAHORE: Open trials for Sindh and Balochistan will be held at the Hockey Club of Pakistan, Karachi on Jan 29 to spot talented players for the camp to be held later to select final national team for the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
The event is scheduled to be staged in Ipoh, Malaysia from April 7 to 17.
Open trials for the remaining provinces will be held separately for which the venue and dates will be intimated later, a PHF press release stated.—Sports Reporter
