PESHAWAR: The apex committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has asked Peshawar division commissioner to investigate security arrangements on the day of the attack on the Bacha Khan University (BKU) in Charsadda.

A meeting of the committee held at the Governor House here on Friday reviewed the overall security situation in the wake of the BKU terrorist attack and progress on implementation of the National Action Plan.

The meeting was presided over by Governor Mahtab Ahmad Khan and attended by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Corps Commander Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman and other officials.

A statement issued after the meeting said: “It was decided that a committee headed by commissioner of Peshawar division will investigate security arrangements on the day of the attack.”

The meeting reviewed the law and order situation in the province and Fata and discussed the progress on implementation of the NAP, especially focusing on the attack on the university that clai­med the lives of 21 people, including students, a faculty mem­ber, employees and security guards.

The committee will investigate if there was any flaw and negligence in security arrangements, fix responsibility and submit a report in five days.

The apex committee decided that security arrangements in all educational institutions of the province would be looked into and in case of any negligence strict action would be taken.

The meeting was briefed on action taken against the culprits and facilitators of the BKU attack.

The apex committee decided that issues relating to border management would be resolved on a priority basis to curb terrorism. The 1125 emergency helpline will be working round the clock.

The apex committee appealed to citizens to keep an eye on suspicious people and their activities and report the matter on the helpline.

It decided to forward a summary to the federal government for resolving issues of the Frontier Constabulary in the province and for effective implementation of the National Action Plan. The committee expressed the hope that the federal government would take concrete measures in this regard.
