Polythene bags

DHAKA, Nov 5: Polythene shopping bags of any type are banned in Bangladesh and their production, distribution and selling are punishable crimes.

The government banned the polythene bags, as they were proved unfriendly and injurious to environment.

While price of jute-made shopping bags, alternative to polythene bags, is something beyond the buying capacity of the common Bangladeshis.

During the enactment of law banning the polythene bags, the government assured the users that sufficient and cheap jute-made bags would be abundantly available in the market to ease the difficulty of the people.—APP
