Law is Law, our nation needs to start obeying laws. Policeman cannot be held responsible if these motor riders were breaking law by not stopping at a check post.

Yeah they did that right it's the same in all developed nations. You should have fear of consequences. I just hope they stay consistent with this. I shouldn't have to pay for other ppls lack of sense of responsibility. I am young and I don't do these things. If anything case should be made against the friend although he was not the driver but if there is to b a case.

@mirza I thought capital punishment was reserved for a few specific cases in our country, and a judge made the final decision. Didn't know policemen could serve as judge, jury and executioner on the streets of Karachi.

Police performed well,but being law knowing police would have chased motorists.Perhaps it would not have occurred this. well my sympathies with died person.Law is law , but nobody is above the law.we ought to get respect the Law.

Don't you know the very basic principle that the punishment when awarded is always subjective and proportionate to the crime committed in any case and not otherwise whatsoever. Not stopping fir checking is a violation I agree but under which law does it allow police to kill the defaulter is my direct question to you and you only since you justified killing? If I am not blunt I will say that a person steals something worth Rs 5000 for example and he must be punished while another person fires at another person who dies meaning by both have committed crime and shall be punished but their punishments cannot be the same simply because their crimes are different and nit the same. @mirza stop for what? I see these motor bikes stopped by police all the time, and always see the bikers with their wallet out to pay the policemen. They are disturbing the poor ppl everyday.

@james I will ask you how much did you care about stopping, if your, god forbid, parents are in hospital or in other emergency and you are driving the motorbike. The policemen can always use firearm but then can hit on the tyres of the motorbike, they can chase the motorcyclists and call for backup, they can shoot the legs of the suspect, but shooting a person dead should never be used as a first option.

I would like to recommend to the IGP to make sure that the police divides the police pickets in at least two parts. They must have communications with each other and the second one should be mobile. If someone does not stop when signalled by the first picket, the second picket deployed at a distance, immediately reacts and blocks the person. At the same time the police department needs an overhaul. I am from Karachi. It is common knowledge that the policemen are only stopping bike riders to collect money. They do not dare stop big fancy cars, even those with blackened glasses or private guards carrying weapons. Please have a look on the way Rangers deploy their pickets.

I think policemen did well according to law. This boy should be stop to routine check.

@Zaidi, Iqbal Hadi You are absolutely correct. Not stopping at a traffic signal or when police officers ask you to stop is an offence. Unless there is crefew or shoot to kill orders implemented in the city, this act was foolish and requires strict punishment. If there was a gun battle and police retaliated is a separate issue.

Police could have chased and if they still tried to flee the maximum police can do is to burst the tires or aim the leg or so.

Sad incident but law is law. Rubber bullets could be used. Let's not use excess force unless required

Those criticising policemen are same people who criticise police for doing nothing against terrorism. Guys, U live in a country where terrorism is. follow law. learn to follow law.

There are lot of other ways to stop a vehicle that our police needs to learn (tire deflators and many other ways to puncture a running vehicle). You don't have to kill the driver. But who will care and do that when our law makers are busy passing the bills protecting their own theft?

@Zaidi, Iqbal Hadi good reply. Question is have the riders fired at police? Have the police recovered any weapons from them? If no then why didn't police chased them instead of firing on them. Have the police ever stopped the twin cabin pickups with tinted glasses? Never. They usually stop bikers in most of the cases to mint money. If police focused on its duties then there will be no need of Rangers in Karachi

We live in an age where suicide bombers exist, some exactly his age. He should have stopped. It's sad that we must be hyper vigilant, but the alternative is death and destruction. RIP to this gentleman, others should be more careful at checkpoints and obey directions.

This is unfortunate, but the motorists should stop when the police ask them to do so, especially in a lawless city like Karachi.

Police asked the boys to stop; they didn't; Police shot at them. Alternative is for the Police was to chase them down. Not really a possibility, given that the Police Van will require to be started and then follow a motorbike through Karachi's traffic. Alternative # 2 for Policemen is to let them go. If they are criminals, they will be free to do as they please. I am 99% sure the policemen never meant to shoot the boys dead, but to stop them. Unfortunately for the dead lad, a bullet hit him in the head. The chances of that happening are miniscule, at best. Those claiming the Police stop "poor people" to harass them for money, let me tell you that no policeman has ever been able to harass me for money as all my documentation and papers are in order. I do get stopped a lot of times, due to the mediocre condition of my old car, but having ensured all legal documents are in order and the vehicle is road-worth in all the senses, I have yet not been forced to pay anything.

what if they were target killers fleeing bec of the police or terrorist carrying arms ect they should have stopped if they have nothing to hide, police will assume the worst when they did not stop, and its Karachi where crime rate is high

I agree to Mirza, It is sad youth did'nt stop but how policeman knows he is nt caring any expolosive device or otherwise. Citizen should follow rules and stop on toll or check post. Media is unfair to law police.

I hope the message is clear, when the police ask you to stop, stop. Don't flee because you are assumed to be a terrorist.

@Zaidi, Iqbal Hadi Although punishment doen't fit the crime we have to realize that many target killers and terrorists use bikes to kill and get away. They could have been carrying a bomb or unlicensed weapons. In the current scenario, it is understandable if police fires at someone who does not stop at checkpoint. If it can be proven that they were unarmed and police knew about it and still fired than I agree with you. Otherwise, it is understandable.

Police men cannot shoot for traffic violation. Such killing is murder. they can arrest that person and put him in jail, but killing is murder.

@Zaidi, Iqbal Hadi I am sorry Mr. Zaidi but I do disagree with your analyses. The entire purpose of putting up checkpoints is to deter terrorists to harm the citizens of that city. It is a DETERRENCE. If somebody speeds up at a checkpoint, it is a logical assumption that they may be terrorists intending to blast a bomb. I think cops had no choice but to fire. Death is unfortunate but, cops intent was to stop the potential disaster.

Who knows, these kids could have been terrorists. Always stop at police check posts if you have nothing to hide.

Would police shoot a motorised in relatively new Japanese Car?

It's stupid to shoot to kill for a mere traffic violation to stop. Why not shoot in lower part of body or on motor bike tire so a violator could be stopped and a precious life is not wasted. They need to use head rather instinct to kill. In other parts of the world, police shoots over toy gun with same wrong reason to kill granted they are working under uncertain circumstances.

This is simply ridiculous, how can they shoot someone like that, this is barbaric and insane. Police officers should be brought to justice, they should be punished hard.

The police acted brutally in this case,they just stop the bikers to graft their hands,a case under 302 is now imperative.

Law is only for those who don't have guns in hands otherwise terrorists, criminals, and uniform persons all are exempted.

@Shahan There are hundreds of examples when people in emergency have been stopped but then police have escorted them to their area of interest. Bottom line traffic has to obey laws or face consequences

Police should be obeyed at check points. They are protecting law abiding citizen against criminals. If you behave like criminal you have to suffer consequences. Law should be strict and media should support it rather than play it up.

No one is above the law. He is putting at risk the security of the police officers. Although it is unfortunate that a life is lost, but, what if they had been carrying explosives. we would be handing over multiple dead to their respective families.

The first question I would ask these police officers is why did they try to stop these youngsters ? Did they break any law ? It is not uncommon in Karachi that people are shy of facing police because most of the time the motive of any police action is to extort money.

The motor cycle rider was running away from traffic police and was not a threat to any ones life. Policeman killed an innocent rider. The policeman shall be charged punished for murder of an innocent man
