KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Friday claimed to have killed a suspected gangster in an ‘encounter’ in Lyari on Friday morning.

The suspect, identified as Nasir Wachani, was ‘very close’ to Uzair Baloch, as he looked after his ‘financial and land affairs’, sources said.

According to the Rangers spokesperson, the paramilitary force conducted a raid against Lyari gang warfare suspects in Lyari.

As they approached a hideout of the suspects, they came under fire, he said, explaining that they returned fire that left one suspect wounded.

He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he died, the official added.The deceased was later identified as Nasir Wachani, who belonged to the Uzair Baloch-led gang. He was a wanted gangster, involved in killings, extortion, kidnappings and other heinous crimes, according to the Rangers statement.

Sources said Nasir Wachani was also once arrested and jailed but released on bail.
