LAHORE: An accountability court on Thursday extended for 12 days the physical remand of the prime accused in the Rs16 billion DHA City (Lahore) land scam.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced Hammad Arshad before the court and sought extension in his custody.

The investigating officer told the court that further physical remand was required for the completion of the investigation.

The court allowed the request and extended his physical remand till Jan 26.

Meanwhile, a number of affected people of the scam held a protest demonstration outside the accountability court against the DHA. They alleged that the plundered amount was not Rs16 billion but Rs30 billion. They chanted slogans against the DHA authorities and appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the scam.

The accused was the CEO of Globaco (pvt) Ltd and involved in corruption and cheating the public at large.

The NAB alleged that the company had secured a contract from DHA-EME in 2009 to acquire 25,000 kanal for the establishment of the DHA City but failed to acquire the land and issued allotment letters and collected around Rs15.47 billion from public.
