KARACHI: A man was shot dead in what was described as a sectarian attack on the main Dr Saleem-uz-Zaman Siddiqi Road popularly known as Suparco Road near the Dow Medical University Hospital on Friday evening.

They added that 45-year-old Mukhtar Hussain Zaidi was riding a motorcycle when armed motorcyclists attacked him opposite the Isamili community’s residential complex Gulshan-i-Noor near Suparco and fled.

He sustained critical wounds and was taken to the Dow hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Later, his body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

According to Dr Seemin Jamali, the man sustained bullet wounds on his head.

Mobina Town SHO Zafar Abbasi said that the murder appeared to be a targeted killing linked with sectarianism.

The victim was returning home in Chapal Sun City near Safoora Goth after shopping for his daughter somewhere in the city. Quoting the watchman of the Gulshan-i-Noor housing complex, the police officer said that three suspects riding on a motorcycle were chasing Mr Zaidi.

The victim was the father of associate news producer of Geo News Tasbiha Zaidi, said a Geo News official.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen said that it was a targeted killing of a member of the Shia community.

He said the victim was an office-bearer of Electronic Dealers Association in Saddar.
