KHAR: The security forces have set up dozens of new posts along the Pakistan Afghanistan border to stop cross-border attacks and infiltration of militants from the neighbouring country.

Briefing journalists about the security measures, Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Niyar Zaman said here on Monday that the measures were part of a strategy to make the agency safe and stop cross-border attacks.

He said that new posts were established at various areas including Nawagai, Chamaraknd, Mamond, Salarzai, Charmang and Kamangara along the border. He said that those areas were strategically important. The official said that all the newly established posts were fully functional and well-trained troops were deployed there. The step would secure the border areas from cross-border attacks and stop infiltration of militants from Afghanistan in Pakistani territory, he added.

“The posts are now completely functional and equipped with all kind of modern weapons and other items,” said Col Zaman. He added that after the establishment of new posts the security personnel would easily check suspicious activities in the region.

The official said that residents of the border areas welcomed establishment of the new posts as they felt more secure and comfortable. He said that establishment of new posts in the border localities strengthened relations between the local people and security forces.

“The establishment of the new posts by the security forces has not only increased confidence of local people but people’s support for the forces,” said the official.

He said that people and security forces were on the same page about maintenance of peace and stability in the region and elimination of militants and anti-social elements.
