RAWALPINDI, Nov 2: Rana Naved-ul-Hasan claimed an incredible six wickets for 25 runs on Sunday as Wapda rout Army by an innings and 127 runs in their Patron’s Trophy qualifying round match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Wapda who had taken a 195-run first innings lead, bundled out Army for only 68 runs in just over 35 overs thanks to Naved’s impressive bowling and an equally good show by Aqil Ahmed who picked up four for seven. Army were 34 for three overnight.

At the KRL Stadium, PTCL, chasing a victory target of 256 runs were in danger of losing to KRL but Shahzad Malik (59 not out) and Muhammad Idrees (36 not out) saved them as they finished on 156 for six to force a draw. The wickets went to Jaffar Nazir and Muhammad Asif, both of whom took two apiece.

KRL who resumed their second innings at 95 for five with an overall lead of 196 runs could manage only 154, Muhammad Hussain snaring six for 35 to have match figures of 10 for 120. Saeed Anwar Jr took the batting honours with a knock of 54 featuring six boundaries. KRL gained three first innings lead points from the game.

In another match at Islamabad’s Shalimar Cricket Ground, POF bowlers did well to stop PTV at 185, Rashid Latif and Muhammad Jameel sharing six wickets and Asif Masood chipping in with two. Muhammad Khalid topscored for PTV, contributing 46 runs followed by Fayyaz Ahmed who struck 35.

POF who had earlier put on 260, earned three points from this match by virtue of having gained first innings lead. There had been no play on the first day because of a wet pitch.

PTCL 112 in 50.5 overs (Muhammad Imtiaz 28, Muhammad Idrees 23; Yasir Arafat 3-21, Ali Naqvi 3-23, Muhammad Asif 3-25) and 156-6 in 58.1 overs (Shahzad Malik 59 not out, Muhammad Idrees 36 not out; Jaffar Nazir and Muhammad Asif two wkts each).
