TOBA TEK SINGH: Saddar police recovered on Tuesday a rocket launcher and its gun from Jhang branch canal bed.

The canal is closed for desiltation for a month and villagers of Chak 376-JB, Bassi, saw the weapon in the sand of the canal.

They informed Saddar police who recovered the rocket launcher.

SHO Ali Raza said the bomb disposal staff of the civil defence department had defused it.

Bomb disposal staff said it seemed the rocket launcher had been thrown into the canal around a week ago. Mr Raza said further investigation is under way.

DIESEL THEFT CASE: Nawan Lahore police registered on Tuesday a case against unidentified men who were allegedly stealing diesel by breaking main pipeline of Parco near Chak 336-GB.

Complainant Parco Faisalabad security officer Shahzad Khalid told police that he and other staffers reached the spot on information by a security van. He said they found some suspects filling an oil tanker through a plastic pipe.

He said the alleged thieves managed to escape along with their tanker. No arrests were made so far.

DBA POLLS: An office-bearer and all the 10 executive committee members had been declared elected unopposed to the district bar association on Tuesday.

Election for the remaining offices will be held on Jan 9.

Imran Joya has been elected unopposed for librarian slot while 10 executive body members are Naveed Ashraf, Sheraz Munir, Rana Sakhawat Khan, Wasim Aslam, Sadaf Siddiq, Khalid Mahmood, Shahid Zeb Sargana, Muhammad Nawaz, Munaf Khan and Chaudhry Safdar Ali.

There will be one-on-one contest between Chaudhry Abdul Waheed Maan and Mian Farrukh Iqbal for president slot, Mian Mahmood Siddique and Ghulam Sarwar Babar for vice president, Mian Salman Ghani and Iftikhar Niazi for general secretary, Tajammal Nafees Bhatti and Nadeem Zarnab for joint secretary and Abid Ali Sipra and Ms Saba Bano for finance secretary.
