Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ban VIP protocol, says Imran Khan

LODHRAN: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will introduce a ban on stopping traffic for VIP protocol and condemned the death of 10-month-old Bisma in Karachi due to Bilawal Bhutto’s protocol measures.

“I will meet KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in this regard. Traffic will not be stopped for any VIP protocol, even if it is the prime minister. We will start change from KP.”

“If you are so afraid to die, then stay home,” said the PTI chief to those demanding protocol fearing for their lives.

Imran said just like the entire nation had united in the fight against terror after the army school attack in Peshawar, the death of Bisma had united the country to fight elaborate protocol for VIPs.

He also criticised the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahdda Qaumi Movement (MQM) for trying to threaten the Karachi operation to safeguard their “militant wings” and “corruption.”

Addressing a celebratory public gathering in Lodhran after Jahangir Tareen of the PTI won by-election for NA-154, defeating PML-N’s Siddique Baloch, Imran Khan thanked the people of Lodhran for “supporting the cause of justice.”

“You refused to accept the government's Rs2bn bribe via the farmers' package,” Imran told the crowd. “We will never forget the people of Lodhran.” He also urged the prime minister to ensure that the people of Lodhran get the Rs2bn he had promised them before the by-poll.

The PTI chief questioned why the PML-N lost by a wide margin of 40,000 votes in the Lodhran by-poll but won local body polls comprehensively in the district.

“The by-poll was conducted under the army's check but the local government elections were conducted by PML-N patwaris and bureaucrats.”

Imran Khan also urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to ensure justice was delivered in the NA-122 case, which will go to hearing on Dec 30.

“With all due respect, we want to know how 26,000 new votes were added to the constituency when there were only 812 new votes on the record.”

How would the so-called 'Servants of the Nation' know the difficulties being faced by the common man. These VIPs live outside Pakistan and feeding on it like vultures. With the wealth amassed by them from Pakistan, they dare not come to Pakistan other than w/o such protocols. Cheap popularity stunt again!! The nation had great hopes and expectations from IK and PTI but they have failed miserably to deliver any goods. PTI had a golden opportunity to demonstrate that they are different than traditional politicians but they have blown it. They should tell the nation about their performance in their province rather than jumping on the band wagon to get cheap popularity.

Imran Khan is no doubt a honest man. You can object his way of politics but you can't object his vision and thinking to change Pakistan. He is focusing on environment and planting trees, discouraging VIPs, spending on health, education and very basic necessities of human life. I think Pakistan is changed through IK.

The VIP culture in Pakistan is sickening. It is a sign of inferiority complex and a carry over from colonial period. Even common people would like to use their connecitons to get VIP treatment at every place in the society. Their excuse is that work does not get done if you do not pay bribe or have connections. I have stood against this throughout my life and I have always been treated with respect. I live outside Pakistan but when I visit Pakistan, there are people standing at the airports for VIP and there are separate lines at immigration counters etc. for VIPs. Unless people of Pakistan stand against it and refuse to provide or get any preferential treatment, we cannot eliminate this culture. We need to stand up against it even when we are the beneficiary.

V r living here and on daily basis face the VIP movement on Khyber Road in Peshawar. It should be ban for all means Army, Judiciary, UN Missions, Chief Secretary, Ministers, Speaker etc. Kaptan dont play politics you cant do this. Its a challenge

But may I humbly ask "Why is it that our children have to die" to bring about change in our society? This happened in Peshawar and now in Karachi. Once again Pakistanis are being tricked by fake leaders ...it is not issue of banning a protocol ...it is issue of making laws to criminalize use of state resources by any kind of protocol or use of Police as private security guards for MNAs/MPAs and elected government officials..I highly doubt Imran khan will do that . I highly doubt PTI and JI lead KP assembly will ever pass a law which makes blocking entry to Hospital ER a crime or enact any law which can put liability of loss of life or business due to any official protocol. Imran knows Bans come and go easy and he will get Zindabad naras from people who don't understand how they are being manipulated. I highly doubt Bilawal would be stupid enough to order blocking entrance of emergency department of hospital if we had laws to criminalize such acts or put financial liability for such negligence ..

Good start! At least he admits VIP culture is bad and the reason is because he is neither Wadera nor Sardar or a Choudry. Open your eyes Pak and look around. The demeanor of these Sardars, Choudrys and Waderas never change whether they are elected or not and this mindset is seeping into the society. They are the reason for the sorry state of affairs in Pak and unless Pak eliminate these untouchable classes, nothing will change. It has to start from somewhere and IK has taken the first step. This is how things work in the western civilized world to protect the rights of their civilians. Some LAW FIRM in Pakistan should sue the Government of Sindh for (RS.100 Million)on behalf of the parents of Bisma for the wrongful death of their child. After recovery of money should keep 25% of the compensation and 75% should go to the parents of Bisma.

@Sandhu I just want to know if so far VIP protocol was being observed in KPK or not. I understand from IK statement that from future VIP protocol will be banned in KPK. There was a news in the recent past in the press stating that in Islamabad some unknown car entered into the caravan of PM cars which shows that there was no VIP protocol in the sense that road was blocked for the traffics or PM.

@Dilectus MQM is a status quo party? This party comprises middle and lower class people and gets its strength mostly from the same class of the society. MQM leaders belong to the middle class, its ministers belong to lowers middle class . In every party functions the leaders sit with general public and not in any VIP section and still you call it a status quo party. MQM does not give tickets in election to JT, SMQ, CH Sarwar, Pervaiz Khattak and Abdul Halim Khan and still you call it a status quo party.

@Asif If you can read the article it is mentioned that "the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will introduce a ban on stopping traffic for VIP protocol". What that suggests is that the ban will not be on VIP Protocols but rather on barring traffic on the route. Which means that the protocol will travel with the common people.

It is not only a matter of curtailing VIP protocol but somebody must ensure that those who committed this murder must be punished and PPP must not be allowed to pay compensation and get away with this murder, Bilawal Zardari, Chief Minister Sind and provincial Home Minister must face murder trial and be given severe punishment according to law.

@Wajih people should ask how many roads and traffics jams were faced by people due to his senseless protest of 120+ days which he brags about all the time? where thousands of people were eating, sleeping and washing on the roads..?? No one has ever created such a massive blockade to ordinary people's daily life like IK and PTI did...and now he is telling others what to do? He has claimed he will not take protocol and then were ashamed by masses on his own protocol and his wife's protocol even she wasn't entitled to any government protocol...yeh, but big mouth is an asset in cheap politics.

Well considering his victories so far i think Pakistan should give Imran a chance to lead this country. I am not saying that he is perfect and will change Pakistan for sure, but considering the decades of ongoing misery, and misuse of power in Pakistan I think Imran may bring some positive change that would change things for Pakistanis. What's the worst thing that could happen to Pakistan if Imran wins the elections. Right now we have the worst human development index. We have the highest brain drain. Minorities are being killed and targeted by extremists. Corruption has sky rocketed through the roof. Peoples life doesnt matters if you have power. Money is everything and the gap between rich and poor is on rise by 10 folds. Country's debt has sky rocketed by so much that it's getting difficult to pay back. We are so close to being bankrupt. So whats the worst that can happen if he elect IK

@Mr. Arif Durrani, Nothing wrong with VIP movements on your roads even if they have a couple of security vehicles with them. But you must be aware that they never block the traffic and they don't move with 15-20 vehicles with them in Peshawar. No one negates need of security in the present scenario for judges, military commanders and prominent politicians including Bilawal and Nawaz Sharif but blocking rest of the traffic should be discouraged.

@Shahida Khan To ban now means that there will be a legislative amendment to implement the ban in KP. And what he said is that there will be no road blocks for VIPs as it is done now. Just because you don't IK you don't have to criticize him without valid reason. I like IK but as the same time I look at his remarks and polcies objectively. While I disagree with him on his comment on Land owners to sell their lands to Nimal University or we will use other means, I agree with him that this VIP protocol has to go now...
