PTCL billing

Published November 30, 2015

SEVERAL years ago I obtained a 2Mpbs internet connection from PTCL on my home phone 3535-0545. Over the years PTCL kept on increasing the speed from 2 to 8 Mpbs and cost from Rs 750 to Rs 3000 a month unilaterally, billing subscribers for the higher speed without their consent.

Since 2 Mpbs speed was sufficient for my domestic needs, I requested PTCL by calling their helpline 1236 on Sept 30 to restore my 2Mbps economy package. The operator answering my call gave me my request ID No.2462wfz and assured me that the same would be done in a couple of days. However, when the bill for October arrived, I was still charged for the 8Mpbs connection. On Oct 27, I wrote a letter to the customer services manager, requesting the same and delivered it personally to the Misri Shah telephone exchange on Khyaban-i-Muhafiz, Phase VI, DHA. The receiver of the letter also assured me that it would be done before the end of October. On inquiring about the fate of my request on Nov 10, I was surprised to learn that still no action had been taken.

After several calls and personal visits to the customer support centre, I realised that the organisation is as inefficient as it was before privatisation. Through the courtesy of these columns, I ask PTCL to convert my present connection to a 2Mpbs economy package.
