Students join teachers protest

ISLAMABAD: Around two dozen students joined daily-wage teaching and non-teaching staff of model colleges on Friday, protesting for the last 12 days against nonpayment of their salaries.

Some 800 daily wage employees have been waiting for their salaries for the last six months.

The protesting teachers held a combined class of students of various classes at D-Chowk, to press the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) for acceptance of their demands.

“We didn’t ask anyone to join our protest, the students while boycotting their classes joined us to show their love for their teachers,” said Maraj Khan, a protesting teacher and added that CADD and FDE have been playing with the future of teaching and non-teaching staff.

Each day, dozens of teaching and non-teaching staff hold a protest march from Press Club to D-Chowk, where they stage a sit-in but to no avail.

Secretary CADD Khalid Hanif said that teachers had brought a few students to attract media’s attention.

He said the ministry had sought an explanation from the director General of Federal Directorate of Education in this regard. “We have already assured the teachers that their salaries will be released within two weeks time, while their services will be regularis ed in accordance with the rules,” he said.
