HARIPUR, Dec 26: An extraordinary session of Haripur Tehsil Municiple Administration is scheduled to be held on Dec 27 (today) to discuss around 23 proposed taxes on residents of the tehsil, says a handout issued to all 53 members of tehsil assembly.

The session, which would be presided over by Tehsil Naib Nazim Advocate Amin Khan Badhora, would start at 10 am for an open debate on the levies besides other issues, it adds.

The administration has suggested annual tax of Rs100 per marla on nursery licence; Rs5,000 on floor mills; Rs10 per square yard on poultry farms; Rs7,000 on brick kilns; Rs12,000 on petrol pumps; Rs20 per square foot on sign boards; Rs4 per square foot on residential building maps and Rs8 per square foot on commercial building maps. But in future commercial rate would be charged for the maps of residential buildings constructed along the road of village areas.

In the category of monthly municipal services tax, it has been proposed that every house should be charged Rs15 ; cinema Rs1,000; crusher Rs1,000; gas dealer Rs500 and hotel Rs10 per room. Whereas under the annual levies cement pipe factories would be charged Rs1,000 per kanal; ice factory Rs5,000; restaurants Rs600; inns Rs 500; sweet shops Rs500; fruit vegetables commission agents Rs5,000; juice/milk shake sellers Rs300; vegetable fruit shops Rs400; whole sellers Rs5,000; meat, mutton and fish sellers Rs1,200 and property dealers Rs10,000.

The new taxes, which are being considered a burden on the citizens, may face a resistance from the members and resentment on the part of locals.
