Benazir urges people to demand rights

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has felicitated the Muslims on the advent of Ramazan and urged them to seek forgiveness for their sins and the blessings of Allah in the holy month.

“I wish to felicitate the Muslims throughout the world in general and the Muslim brothers and sisters in Pakistan in particular on the advent of the holy month of Ramazan.”

In her message on the occasion, Ms Bhutto said Ramazan is a month of fasting and blessings which enjoins upon the Muslims to refrain from all evil deeds. “I urge the countrymen to make full use of the holy month in seeking forgiveness for their sins and submitting to the will of Allah.

“Evil manifests itself in different shapes and colours in different times. One of the greatest evils of our time is the hijacking of social and economic opportunities and the basic human rights of our people by a handful of ambitious power seekers. It is important that few ambitious people are not allowed to hijack what belongs to the people.

“On this occasion, I call upon the people to wake up to demand their rights. I urge the parliamentarians, the party leaders in the central executive committee, the federal council, the ticket-holders and different wings of the PPP to arrange Iftar meetings to meet and educate the workers and the people.”
