TIMERGARA: Over 150 earthquake affected families in Lower Dir have been provided with cheques worth Rs200,000 each for rebuilding their damaged houses.

The cheques were handed out during separate functions at Timergara and Munda on Monday. At Timergara, Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Wazir, Commandant of Dir Task Force Colonel Khalid Shafi and district nazim Mohammad Rasool Khan gave the cheques to the affected people.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wazir and Colonel Khalid said all the affected families would be provided with cash to help them rebuild their houses.

In Munda, the officers of Pak Army, Jandol battalion, along with the concerned assistant commissioner distributed cheques among 50 quake affected families.

Also in the day, a non-governmental organisation, Falahi Idara Karvan Foundation Islamabad, distributed blankets, mats and warm clothes among 500 earthquake affected people of Maidan.

Natasha Anwar, the foundation’s programme manager, told journalists that her organisation wanted to reach to those union councils which were the worst affected in the quake.   

SPORTS COMPETITIONS: Annual sports’ competitions among government girls high and higher secondary schools in Lower Dir started at different grounds here the other day.

A function in this regard was held at GGHSS Mayar, where district education officer, female, Zaibun Nissa was the chief guest. On the opening day, a volleyball match between the team of GGHSS Mayar and GGHSS Mian Kalay was won by the former.

Addressing the function, DEO Zaibun Nissa highlighted importance of sports and termed it vital for children’s upbringing.

She said the education department had planned to hold sports gala in government girls middle and primary schools as well. She asked female teachers to involve girls students in sports.

The DEO asked students to take part in sports alongside their studies.

The sports’ competitions among boys’ high and higher secondary schools of Lower Dir are also in progress.

A total of 107 high and higher secondary schools are taking part in the tournament which would continue till Nov 10.
