KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Monday threw out an appeal against the judgement of the Sindh High Court that had upheld the decision of the provincial education department of removing over 200 teachers appointed illegally in 2011 and 2012.
Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, a three-member bench of the apex court dismissed the appeal of the illegally appointed teachers upholding the SHC verdict against them after hearing final arguments from the two sides.
The appellants had first moved the provincial services tribunal that directed the education department to reinstate the applicants.
However, the provincial authorities challenged the services tribunal’s order in the high court which upheld the education departments’ decision of removing them from service.
While hearing the arguments, the CJP observed that the bogus appointments could not have been made without the signatures of the education secretary.
Additional Education Secretary Zakir Ali Shah told the judges that the cases against former education district officers, including Sajan Mallah, Shamsuddin Dal and Abdul Jabbar Dayo, had been sent to the National Accountability Bureau.
The secretary, however, remained silent when one of the bench members asked him as to why a case against the education secretary concerned was not referred to NAB.
