KARACHI: SCDA to undertake 11 schemes

KARACHI, Oct 26: The Sindh Coastal Development Authority will undertake 11 new schemes costing Rs 173.23 million to be implemented in the coastal belt of Thatta and Badin districts.

The schemes include the rehabilitation and propagation of drought affected coastal mangroves of Thatta district (Rs 39.69); planting of salt-resistant tree species in coastal zone of Sindh (Rs 7 million); marine fisheries surveillance (Rs 18.750 million); pen-culture demonstration in coastal creeks and back water of Sindh (Rs 8.5 million); coastal aquaculture master plan (Rs 30 million); improvement of livestock in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin (Rs 39.99 million); shrimp breeding in coastal areas of Thatta and Badin (Rs18 million); feasibility study for power-generation/ energization from wind energy (Rs 2 million); installation of five wind energy units/models as pilot projects (Rs 3 million); construction of water supply reservoirs with provision of pipelines/ hand pumps wherever necessary in coastal village Golo Mandhro in Badin district (Rs 2.071 million) and village Ismail Aplano of Thatta district (Rs 5.486 million).

According to SCDA sources, two more schemes — feasibility study/designing for construction of Shah Bandar Jetty (Rs 5 million) and preparation of feasibility report for ferry service from Karachi to coastal belt of Thatta and Badin districts (Rs 12 million) — are also in the pipeline. — APP
