ISLAMABAD, Dec 26: The 24th death anniversary of Kashmiri leader Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas was observed on Tuesday.

The function, held at the mausoleum of the Kashmiri leader at Faizabad was attended by Azad Kashmir President Maj-Gen (Rtd) Sardar Anwar Khan, prime minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan and Muslim Conference president Sardar Abdul Qayum Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, the AJK premier stressed the need for national unity to counter the international intrigues and conspiracies against Pakistan’s solidarity.

Pakistan was not only the citadel of Islam but also a refuge for all those Muslims, who were subjected to atrocities all over the world.

He said examples of honesty and piety set by late Ghulam Abbas cannot be found in today’s politicians. He lauded Musharraf’s policies in promoting Kashmir issue.

He termed, Pakistan’s political and moral support to the Kashmiri’s freedom struggle within the parameters of UN resolutions.

The AJK president Anwar Khan condemned the Indian war phobia and said India was underestimating the will of Pakistani nation to combat any external threat as a combined force.

He said Kashmiris could only succeed in achieving their ideals if they emulate the examples set by late Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas.

A former AJK premier Sardar Abdul Qayum Khan said Kashmiri nation was offering sacrifices for the last 50 years to fulfil the aspirations of Quaid-e-Azam and Quaid-e-Millat Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and freedom was not far now.

He blamed the Pakistani politicians of wrongdoings to force the army to intervene and take reigns of power.

He praised Gen Musharraf’s stand against Indian provocation and said Pakistan was left with no other option. He described Pakistan’s Kashmir policy in accordance with the nation’s aspirations.
