KHAIRPUR, Oct 25: District Nazim Nafisa Shah has said she is feeling unsafe as she may be implicated in false cases, adding that she has informed the Sindh government in writing in this regard.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, she said union council Nazims belonging to the Awam Dost Panel were being harassed.

She said she was not being allowed to work as the head of the district government and was being compelled to resign.

She demanded that fresh election should be held for the seat of the Kot Diji taluka Nazim.

Nazims of three talukas, union council Nazims and councillors present on the occasion, announced that they would resign if no notice was taken of the threats being issued to them.

They condemned the registration of water theft case against Nazims, councillors and activists of the ADP and alleged that their opponent Nazims were involved in water theft.

They demanded that the government should remove DPOs of operation and investigation branches.

They also alleged that the DCO was interfering in the election of the Mohabbat Wah union council Nazim.

On Friday, the district Nazim lodged a complaint with the Sindh governor and the chief minister and other higher authorities against the provincial irrigation minister’s visit to Khairpur to help his party candidate win the local government elections.

In a communication she drew the attention of the authorities towards the method adopted by the minister during his visit to Khairpur stating that he used government resources and officials to help the candidate take part in elections.

She said DPOs operation and investigation placed the entire police force and resources to serve their own vested interest.

She said the DSP of Kot Diji took 11 councillors in police custody and only after intervention of the higher authorities they were released.

The Nazim said at least 50 persons, mostly councillors, Nazims and political activists, were implicated in kidnapping, water theft and other criminal cases.

She said one day before the polling began police mobiles were activated to bring councillors, in custody of officials.

She also drew the attention of higher authorities to the remarks of the provincial minister who on record stated that he would conduct an inquiry against the district government and would get the district Nazim face a no-confidence motion.
