Pakistan urges world to take notice of Shiv Sena activities

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday requested the international community to take notice of the activities of India's hardliner political party Shiv Sena.

Foreign Office spokesman Qazi Khalilullah during the weekly briefing said that Pakistan has repeatedly expressed reservations over Shiv Sena's activities.

The FO spokesman maintained that Indian ambitions are destabilising the security situation in the region, while Pakistani missions worldwide have been exposing Indian designs in this regard.

He urged India to refrain from entering into an arms race in the region and work towards improving the security situation.

About the recent earthquake, Khalilullah said that United Nations (UN) and a number of other countries have offered help but Pakistan has so far not decided to accept international help in this regard.

The spokesman said that Pakistan and Russia have agreed to jointly construct a gas pipeline and will welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit to Pakistan early next year for the project's ground- breaking ceremony.

On October 19, activists belonging to Shiv Sena attacked the Mumbai headquarters of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) just before Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan was to meet BCCI Chief Shashank Manohar to discuss a bilateral series scheduled to be held in December.

The activists shouted anti-Pakistan slogans and held posters that read 'Shahryar Khan go back', determined to stop Manohar from meeting his Pakistani counterpart. The protesters entered Manohar's office and crowded around his desk, shouting slogans.

The meeting was cancelled after the incident.

Earlier this month, Shiv Sena activists attacked Sudheendra Kulkarni, who organised a book launch in Mumbai for former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri.

Recently a concert of Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali, scheduled to be held in Mumbai, was cancelled after security concerns arose over threats issued by Shiv Sena activists.

Relations between the Pakistan and India are at their lowest ebbs with allegations of ceasefire violations and involvement in terrorism from both sides.

Planned talks between national security advisers from India and Pakistan were canceled in August hours before they were due to start, dashing hopes the two might tackle the violence that many fear could one day spark a nuclear showdown.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his speech at the 70th session of UN General Assembly earlier this month, presented a four point peace initiative to resolve all issues with India.

But India rejected the peace plan accusing Pakistan of promoting terrorism in the region, Pakistan handed over three dossiers of Indian involvement of terrorism inside Pakistan to UN chief.

Citizens of India and Pakistan are not violent at all..!! With no offence, but try to understand this extremism of just a political party (and not whole of India) with the help of another aspect: "Any segment in a society does not surely represent the society as a whole, believing this true, why Muslims are not considered as the followers of the most peaceful religion (same as followers of other religions consider themselves to be). But still, a majority of Non-Muslims believe/consider Muslims as terrorists just because of any segment's ideology. Surely, that majority is ignorant..!"

Here in USA,we live together,we ate together,we share our moments of joy,and sadness,yes we called ourselves as "Desi". All what RSS or Shev Sina says is for Indian to contain,and all what fanatics says in Pakistan is for Pakistan to control.The only problem is media hype,which exaggerate the news,inflate the news,which ofcourse create a negative affect socially.Media should not inflate,broaden the news more than it deserve.

@Jag - You claim "they never harmed anybody". Creating disharmony and communal divisions that result in mass riots is nothing to worry about then! Various writers, artistes protesting against rising intolerance , followed by more than 600 top scientists who have signed a letter to the president, the latest now the historians, it’s all meaningless then?

@Baba; 'have a very limited following restricted to some parts of the city of Mumbai.' Shiv Sena uses several front organizations, RSS/Sangh Parivar/Vishwa Hindu Parishad and BJP, all fanatics share a fantasy of a great India in the past and a great Indian superpower in the future.

Shiv Sena is a my-way or highway kind of organization which uses loud voices to suppress the voices of the opposition. 99.9% of Shiv Sainiks don't even own guns. They are just loud. That most of the time works. But they are losing elections after elections. That is not to say that Shiv Sena's activities are not to be condemned. Bihari's North Indians and South Indians and many in Bollywood have been at the receiving end of their wrath. If ink is extremism, then oh man. Even during the George Bush times, in US, careers of many singers were destroyed because they opposed Iraq war. People literally spat on actress Jane Fonda during her book launch function in US. "Democracy is not easy. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, 'You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.' "

@mustafa Though I do not agree with the policies of ShivSena, I would like to point out that: - They did not burn nor have ever burned any children. - They have not lynched anyone because of eating habits. .. abd nit have they lynched anyone. Just seeing the record straight.

@Harmony-1 On the contrary, this is the attention that Shiv sena is desperately after... they need this oxygen of attention for their own survival. I am afraid any further attention will only embolden these regressive elements. I am sure the government in Pakistan knows this very well, so why are they drawing attention to the Shiv sena and giving them a lifeline?

@aamchi mumbai I am Indian, and it does affect me very much. In any case, why does one have to be Indian to question this madness that goes around in the name of patriotism? What irks me (and also many other rational people) is some people appropriating patriotism to themselves and calling anyone who questions their parochial views as anti-national.
