LAHORE: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed called on Pakistan Awami Tehreek president Dr Tahirul Qadri in Canada, says a message received here on Sunday.

Both the leaders, who along with Imran Khan-led PTI, had kept normal activities of the federal capital suspended for many days during the famed Islamabad sit-in the previous year, discussed the national political scene, it said.

Without giving details of what transpired between them during the meeting, the message quoted Dr Qadri as criticizing the incumbent rulers for what he said damaging the country by executing their personal businesses and the government affairs simultaneously.

The PAT leader also alleged that since the democracy in vogue was protecting the interests of plunderers, the “trader rulers” wished to maintain the status quo.

He asserted that the masses would have to come on roads one day for the change of system.

Dr Qadri had earlier taken out a long march on Islamabad seeking reforms in the present election system in January 2012, months before the general elections.

Referring to the recent US visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said the US statement that Islamabad should resolve its problems on its own manifested failure of the visit.

He claimed that Washington was now willing to talk to the Pakistan Army directly (on vital US interests in the region).
