As friction between India and Pakistan intensifies with Shiv Sena's daily threats, citizens from both sides of the border have decided to show how they really feel about their 'rival' neighbour.

A campaign apparently initiated by Mumbai resident Ram Subramanian has gone viral with #ProfileForPeace hashtag with an aim to battle the politics of hate.

Shiv Sena activists had stormed headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 19 just before Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan was to meet BCCI chief Shashank Manohar to discuss a bilateral series in December.

The 'Seniks' had issued threats against a number of Pakistani personalities, including actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, which had also prompted the withdrawal of Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar from India, who was officiating matches in the ongoing India-South Africa series over security concerns.

Shiv Sena’s hooliganism, had also forced Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar to quit the ongoing India-South Africa series and head home early. Both were commentators in the ongoing series in India.

Meanwhile, commenting on the recent intolerant attitude displayed by the right –wing Shiv Sena against Pakistani citizens, the Indian High Commission's spokesperson in Islamabad had stated that there is no threat to Pakistani citizens visiting India.

Does it make difference to the hawks out there...No... people and place don't hate until told to do so and the hawks know the job.... Economically and socially Pakistan for sure and India may as well cannot afford a short or long war... not in the budget,.. Hope sanity prevails.

Such simplistic ideas do not resolve the long-term conflict caused by islam's long-term plan/goal of exterminating non-muslims. In fact such simplicisms actually make the islamofascists more hidden and more powerful. Simple-minded people often do dumb things with bad long-term effects.

Close to half of Indians/is still defecates in the opens but have cellphones Both countries'most populace have not much sense of cleanliness and sanitation Both countries teaching their young ones lies/distorted history thru school texts books Both of them have been involved in 4 wars including one undeclared war and many border skirmishes/military stand-offs yet learned nothing continue to act like immature/amateurs Despite being 20.5% of the world’s population the trade between the countries is less than $2.5B which is very shameful The question is why can't we grow up? But with this article signs are pretty good. ..

Hate is corrosive. It damages the person doing the hating. On the other hand, love respect and harmony strengthens not only the person being loved but also the lover. Let us bear this in mind. For sure there are differences (legitimate and illegitimate) on both sides, but let us keep in mind a bigger prize and work towards peace.

I love people who sympathize with my Brothers and sisters of Mumbai blast victims. As well as I love people who sympathize with my Indus valley brothers of Peshawar School Victims. I love people who say All world is a family. I love people who pray that every one (irrespective of Race, nationality and Religion) be healthy and prosperous. I am an Indian. I do not hate Muslims or Pakistan. My Muslim colleagues and friends - nationals of different Muslim countries, will do anything for me. Many are '3 am' friends. I firmly believe that the DNA of Pakistanis and Indians is the same. After all, all of Pakistan was Hindu just a few hundred years back. For various reasons, some people converted to Islam, and that is fine with me. I also firmly believe that Pakistan can grow economically provided it improves its law & order and stops all forms of terrorism emanating from its soil. The Indian Prime Minister very categorically said that all Pakistanis are not terrorists. I compliment Dawn editorial team for its broad mindedness. You publish articles that criticize Pakistan too.

I have been seeing these hate-love-hate episodes with India since my childhood which never let us move forward. Instead of moving from one sentimental extreme to other, we need to have a stable relationship with India with top focus on our survival, security and peace. And that i believe can happen only by keeping a safe distance and detach a bit. It is Indian people who elected Modi despite of his past record and we should not forget that.

@lafanga I do not see it as a myth especially talking in the context of sindh both communities Hindus & Muslims living together with mutual respect. Like I earlier said it is matter of recognition of differences and extending sense of mutual respect towards them makes difference. Otherwise given situation in Pakistan it even becomes difficult for Muslims to live together on the pretext sect (Shia-Suni). It is all because we have lost the sense of tolerance and mutual respect for each other's difference of opinion.

first of all Indians should accept the fact that we are a nation and will be one secondly we need to decide about Kashmir once and for all make it an independent state open to both countries we keep begging USA and China or Russia for help where as if we stand together and combine Bangla Desh and Nepal and Iran and Afghanistan we can be a very strong economic power house as we have industries we have raw material and most of all we have man power who is hard working and cheap.The day we stop trying to dominate each other w=and start trading open our borders see how we take quantum leaps.We have fought wars like Europeans and now we can learn to live together like them.

@MAH Modi was elected because of his past record, not despite it. He is an honest, hard working PM who can give his life for the nation. Also, once the courts have cleared him off all the charges wrongly put by the opposition, there is no sane reason to believe otherwise. Indians, irrespective of religion, race etc. are proud to be Indians.

Thanks to Dawn for bringing this movement to its readers. Times of India highlighted this on front page on Sunday 25th. A day back in Gurgaon a Pakistani theater group's drama "baanjh" was disturbed by alleged sena members but organizers and audience jointly asked the goons to stop their protest and leave the venue. The Drama resumed and concluded peacefully.

I have lived in the USA since 1970. Please trust me when I say that Indians and Pakistanis live in peace with deep and dependable friendships here. I am Indian but my first roommate in college was from Karachi. Lived like brothers! Still friends after 45 years. Both of us are grandparents now and visit each other frequently. Trust me I am not alone. My wife's best friend is also a Pakistani. Life is way too short to hate. I hope a few others living overseas will share my views.

Most Indians and Pakistanis don't hate each other. The problems are created by the politicians, the religious class, pundits' and mullahs. They highlight the differences but not common features. They highlight issues that divide and not those that unite. No one in India cares who eats what or drinks whatever. But a vast majority of people do think that reciprocity in all matters is vital. Cultural and sports exchanges. Food festivals. Exhibitions of various kinds. Anything and everything that promotes harmony. Wars, terrorism, hatred and such issues will take both countries nowhere.

This is very good & inspiring. Human beings need not hate each other. People from India and Pakistan MUST insist their governments to discuss their KASHMIR dispute and reach a settlement. So that both countries & their people can live as good neighbours. Its better to attack existing problems, not the people by hate mongering.

I wish Indian media also do the same. Majority of the population on both the countries are not interested in hate politics. They have lot other things to worry about in their daily life, struggling to meet the ends. But vested interests wants the pot keep boiling.

@Sudhanshu Swami Such simple and pure thoughts. When love is blind...how can be hate so selective. I mean when you love a person you don't see his nationality or religion, but how can you hate a person on the basis of his nationality or religion. Generalization and being judgmental doesn't makes any sense.

Comman man does not bother in daily routine life whether he/she is Hindu or Muslim. It is political leaders spread hatred against each others communities . As negativity spreads in short time against goodness, slowly it starts to become the opinion of the country to which one take it anti-national of his country.

Peace is an attitude by the people of India and Pakistan but extreme mantelity politicians on either sides are problem creators.They don't want peace and stability just for their egoes and political activities.However people's attitude is a good sign for the region.

For a moment let us not be cynical. This is wonderful. The youth of both the countries ( especially educated youth) hold the key for peace and friendship. A day will definitely come when the people of the two countries shed the mutual dislike , like past enemies of Europe do now.

I live in UAE and my 2 colleagues are PAK, i treat them both as my brother and sister. There is lot of love between us. I hope people on both side should understand that there is so much in common (lang, food, culture and respect for our elders and parents..

In the US , Indians and Pakistanis get along very well. If we can get along so well far from the subcontinent, why can we not get along closer to home? Wish all Pakistanis well. Let all our rivalries be only on the cricket or hockey pitch.

Thanks to the friends in India who have joined this campaign. However it remains a bitter reality: "A much higher percentage of Indians hate Pakistan, compared to the low percentage of Pakistanis who hate India". Refer to any recent surveys on the matter, which are a truer reflection of a nation's mood, compared to random pics. Let's address that, to influence true change.
