KARACHI, Oct 24: Pakistan Muslim League-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq has said that the Thal Canal and Kalabagh Dam are contentious issues and be built with consensus.

“If there is no consensus, any dam or canal instead of proving useful would become harmful for national integrity,” he said.

On the issue of LFO, he said there was no justification of talks between the government and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal when Gen Pervez Musharraf is not ready to accept it that the “LFO and uniform” are settled issues and cannot be reopened.

The PML-N leader was talking informally to reporters at the residence of Sardar Rahim, a member of the central committee.

Raja Zafarul Haq said the ARD and PML-N were not part of the talks as it was our stand that the talks could only be held if the government conceded that the LFO and the uniform were contentious issues.

To another question, he denied the impression that the people in Sindh or anywhere else were against the people of Punjab.

Regarding changing scenario on the global level, he said the outcome of the US war against Afghanistan and Iraq and their occupation was not favourable as resistance against the occupation forces was on the increase, and the US, which had bypassed the UN, now wanted to give role to the UN.
