RAWALPINDI: Danish Vice Chief of Defence Gen Per Ludvigsen called on Defence Secretary retired Lt Gen Muhammad Alam Khattak here on Tuesday and discussed ways and means of enhancing defence cooperation.
Pakistan is interested in establishing a mutual defence cooperation programme with Denmark, said a press release. Possible areas of cooperation, including training and courses in military institutes, exchange of observers in military exercises and exchange of visits, were discussed during the meeting.
The defence secretary conveyed to the Danish official Pakistan Navy’s desire for cooperation which included exchange of expertise in hydrography, personnel training in narcotics smuggling and exchange of observers in Naval/SAR/Marine Pakistan Control.
He said Pakistan considered Denmark as an important country of European Union in Nordic region. He also discussed Pakistan’s role in fight against terrorism and sacrifices its forces and people rendered over the past 14 years.
Gen Ludvigsen said that Danish forces had played their role in fight against terror in Afghanistan. Denmark, he said, had willingly extended welfare activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas and parts of Balochistan.
The defence secretary informed the Danish about the security situation on Pakistan’s eastern and western borders and expressed concern over recent violations of Line of Control by India, causing deaths of innocent Pakistani citizens.
