QUETTA: Two security personnel and three suspected militants were killed on Monday in an explosion and armed clashes in Balochistan’s Panjgur and Harnai districts.

“Two security personnel were killed in Khost area of Harnai district,” said Khan Wasey, spokesperson for Frontier Corps (FC).

The FC spokesperson added that security forces were conducting a search operation in the area, when security personnel stepped on a landmine.

“A security official died on the spot, while another sustained serious wounds as a result of the explosion,” added the FC spokesperson.

The wounded security official succumbed to his wounds while being shifted to the hospital.

In another incident taking place in the Panjgur area of Balochistan, three suspected militants were killed in an armed clash with security personnel.

According to security officials, the militants were allegedly linked to a proscribed organisation.

Security personnel have also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition along with motorcycles used for transportation.

“The militants were involved in acts of targeted killings and bomb explosions in the area,” reported Khan Wasey.

Security forces have intensified their actions in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan after the announcement of National Action Plan to combat terrorism in the country.
