HYDERABAD, Oct 23: Residents of Ahmed Khan Chandio village, Tando Bago taluka, Badin district have appealed to the president and prime minister, Sindh governor and chief minister to order the recovery of their relative Ghulam Haider who was detained by police some five months back.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Thursday, Mohammad Bux, Mohammad Khan, Ali Gul and Hussain Bux Chandio said SHO Badin Raj Kumar and other police personnel raided the village on May 9 and arrested Ghulam Haider.

They alleged the police ransacked houses and subjected the women and children to violence. They said on the following day, SHO Badin was approached who demanded Rs200,000 for the release of Ghulam Haider.

They said Ghulam Haider was being held incommunicado without the registration of any FIR against him. They said according to their information he was sometime kept at the police station and at other times he was locked up in the residential quarters of the policemen.

They claimed Ghulam Haider was never involved in any crime nor any FIR had ever been registered against him at any police station.

They charged he and his other family members were being pressurised to sell their lands to DPO Badin. They said they had approached police on several occasions to disclose the whereabouts of Ghulam Haider but in vain.

They appealed to the higher authorities to order the registration of a case against police and recover the man without delay. They feared that he might be killed in a fake police encounter.
