PESHAWAR: Security forces on Friday foiled a major terrorism bid in Urmarh area district of Peshawar.

Security forces recovered a sizeable amount of arms and ammunition, according to capital city police officer (CCPO) Mubarak Zeb.

“Security forces conducted a raid in Urmarh area of Peshawar,” said Zeb.

A search operation was conducted by security forces, and the subsequent raid led to a cache of arms and explosives being discovered.

“Terrorist were using an under construction school to store the weapons, and they planned to attack the Muharram procession in the city,” added the CCPO.

“During the raid six suicide jackets, six batteries, eight detonators and 18 kilograms of explosives were recovered,” elaborated CCPO Zeb.

The police official added that two terrorists were also arrested during the raid, with further investigations being carried out.

The terrorists belonged to a proscribed organisation, according to the police official.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had earlier declared Peshawar, Hangu, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan as the most sensitive districts for Muharram.
