Army chief meets Turkish president, PM

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif, who is on an official visit to Turkey, called on Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday.

According to a tweet of the director general, Inter Services Public Relations, the Turkish leaders appreciated Pakistan’s role for regional peace and Pakistan Army’s contribution towards defeating terrorism.

The Turkish leadership emphasised fraternal ties between the two nations.

The COAS assured the Turkish leadership and brothers of total support in handling their security challenges.

The army chief also held meetings with the Turkish defence minister and chief of general staff and expressed satisfaction on the defence cooperation between the two countries. Both sides vowed to enhance defence collaboration.

@Ashok B. The mess you are talking about was not created by Pakistan. It was the geomilitary situation created by Russian aggression. Later if the Americans vamoosed the highly trained, battle hardy and well armed fighters to play havoc with not only the place of their birth but neighboring countries as well. Blaming Pakistan is unjustified. After having lost so much to wars and hatred. We now must now learn to live like good neighbors. Shifting of blame is considered bad in all societies.

The situation is so different from India....Here in India we have no awareness of the various trips our Chief of Army makes to different countries. That clearly shows the importance of the role the army plays in each of the the countries' governance.

Pakistan has hardly any trade with Turkey, yet all Pakistanis in official positions are always meeting, visiting, seeking appreciation from the Turks. Why Pakistan cannot have a foreign policy based on its own interests rather than trying to create links which do not exist.

While we should share our experience with Turkey in dealing with these monsters, as we are the only nation who have successfully dealt with these lot with iron fist, the focus of our help should only be limited to the internal situation of Turkey. This should not, under no circumstances be extended to the situation in Syria. Our budding relationship with Russia are far too important, specially in context with our dealings with India. A friendly and neutral Russia in Pak-Indo relations, outweighs any foreign policy issue.
