KARACHI, Oct 22: DHA administrator Brig. Maqsood Hussain has said that a comprehensive national strategy for uplift and preemption of education is a must for the progress and prosperity of the nation.

He was speaking at a function held to commemorate the opening of DSRA Elementary School, established for the poor and downtrodden of the area here on Wednesday at the Askari Markaz in DHA Phase-I.

The administrator said that there could be no better social service than working for the cause of education.

He reiterated that the DHA would utilize maximum resources for provision and enhancing the cause of education at all levels.

Brig. Maqsood announced an award of Rs100,000 for the school. He also promised that those young students of the school who would show performance would be given admission in the best DHA schools.

He said that the DHA would also bear all the expenses, including tuition fees of such talented children, because the housing authority believed in provision of equal opportunities of education to all.

The DHA chief lauded the efforts of DSRA for their sound and positive initiative in establishing the school for a noble cause.

Earlier, Real Admiral (Retd) Sajjad Akbar, President DSRA, in his welcome address, said that the school had been established on voluntarily basis for such poor children of the area who could not afford schooling.

He said the children would be provided standard education comparable to any private school in the metropolis.

Admiral Sajjad said a number of philanthropists of the area had pledged to help run the school.

He said the children would be provided free education, uniform, text books, stationary and snacks at he school.

Admiral Muzaffar Hassan, former Navy chief, was also present. Brig Maqsood Hussain later inaugurated the school by formally cutting a ribbon.—APP
