LAHORE, Oct 21: PPP Information Secretary Taj Haider says his party is willing to give the present rulers a safe exit to pave the way for restoration of democracy. However, he made it clear that a deal on principles was out of question.

Talking to reporters at the office of Mr Munawwar Anjum here on Tuesday, he said party chairperson Ms Bhutto would certainly return home at an appropriate time. However, he said, everybody would have to play his role for the sake of democracy.

He claimed that the PPP was in a position to dislodge the present rulers with the support of the masses. Similarly, he said, the party would return to power through ballot.

In response to a question, Taj Haider said the PPP could modify its programme to meet the requirements of the given situation. But, he said the basic ideology of the party would remain unchanged and he who wanted to join the party would have to go by the ideology.

Answering another question, he said Pakistani troops had been playing a peacekeeper’s role in the past under the auspices of the United Nations and there would be nothing unusual if they played a similar role in Iraq.

He said if US troops were withdrawn and the UN peacekeepers replaced them, there would be no harm in Pakistani troops assuming such a role in the occupied Islamic country.
