KARACHI, Oct 21: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company admitted on Tuesday that thousands of telephones of the Azizabad exchange had become dead on Monday night.

According to a PTCL press release, there are two digital exchanges serving Azizabad area, out of which a problem was observed in one branch of switching matrix of 57,000 lines digital exchange Azizabad at 2134 Hours. “However, other 13,000 lines digital exchange was working satisfactorily.

During this time, load was transferred to the back-up branch without any interruption but while the fault was being investigated and measures were taken by the O&M staff for its rectification, a similar fault appeared due to occurrence of a software error on another branch, and caused partial denial of the service to the exchange customers. The service to the customers was restored by PTCL engineers in less than one hour.”
