MULTAN: Former PPP MNA and federal minister Mirza Nasir Baig announced on Monday joining the PML-N and his support for PML-N candidate Umair Baloch in the upcoming by-poll for NA-154.

Mr Baig told a press conference he had been an ideological worker of the PPP for he was the follower of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said he remained with the late Benazir Bhutto like a brother but unfortunately the party had given up its ideology.

“I’ve a 37 years long affiliation with the PPP but I’m not feeling guilt while leaving it as the present leadership of the PPP has left out the slogan of Roti, Kapra aur Makan,” he said.

He said the PPP remained in power for five years but it failed to bring the killers of Benazir Bhutto to justice.

“I believe the PML-N is the only party that is playing its role for the development and prosperity of the country,” he added. He said that he would work for the success of Umair Baloch in the election.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-insaf’s (PTI’s) Jehangir Tareen, PML-N’s Baloch and PPP’s Samir Noon are locked in a pitched battle for the NA-154 bye-poll.

PTI and PML-N candidates are showing their strength through winning over rival parties’ leaders. On Sunday, Mr Tareen had won the support of PML-N’s Akhtar Kanju and other former electoral candidates.
