LAHORE, Oct 19: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi directed the district governments in the Punjab on Sunday to control the prices of essential commodities during the forthcoming Ramazan.

He issued the directions during a meeting with Nazims of Lahore and British Parliament member Lord Nazir Ahmad. The Lahore Nazims were led by District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood.

He said the federal, provincial and district governments were different tiers of the same system and were jointly serving the people. The PML-Q government guaranteed the continuity of the district governments and the party would be reorganized at the union council level.

He said the unification of different factions of the Muslim League had benefited the present political system in the country. His tours of various districts in the province had accelerated the pace of development projects, improved the contact with the people and supported the reorganization of the PML.

Earlier, Pervaiz Elahi said President Musharraf had played a historic role in the OIC meeting with regard to the self-determination right of the Kashmiris, economic revival of the poor Muslim countries and reorganization of the body itself.

He said the president had presented a courageous point of view on the regional and global situation, and issues pertaining to the Islamic world. President Musharraf’s efforts for the Kashmir cause were praiseworthy, the chief minister said.

He said the proposal regarding the constitution of a commission to activate the OIC was welcomed and the president’s efforts about the world peace had furthered country’s respect.

Mian Amer Mahmood briefed the chief minister about Lahore’s development projects, PML’s reorganization and sanitation arrangements in the city.
