MIRPURKHAS, Oct 19: The adviser on health to the Sindh chief minister, Noman Saigal, has said the government is formulating a policy to stop the sale of spurious drugs in the province.

Talking to doctors and officials at a basic health unit in Tando Jan Mohammad here on Friday, he said officials involved in the sale of spurious drugs would be suspended and put behind the bars.

He further said an operation would be launched against ghost employees of the health department and their services would be terminated.

The adviser said he would set up his camp office at the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital to hear problems of the people and would visit the office every month.

He said his tour of the interior of Sindh was aimed at having himself apprised of the problems being faced by the people in the health sector and to improve the performance of his department.

Mr Saigal said he would try to increase salaries of doctors serving in hospitals of rural areas.

He lauded the services of the local health department as Mirpurkhas was declared a polio-free district and announced Rs50,000 for doctors and officials who had taken part in the anti-polio campaign.

The adviser also visited a basic health unit in Naukot.

He directed the officials to provide poor patients with free treatment and medicines.

When his attention was brought towards high fee for X-ray in government hospitals, Mr Saigal directed doctors to ensure that high fee was not be charged from patients.

Earlier, EDO Dr Fazal Ellahi Yousfani presented a report of the district health department and apprised the adviser of problems being faced by the department.
