KARACHI, Oct 19: Sindh Police Inspector General Syed Kamal Shah has asked the capital city police officer and regional police officers of Hyderabad and Sukkur to identify locations at the entry and exit points of Karachi and the province for installation of surveillance cameras.

Presiding over a high-level meeting, the IG directed the officials to submit their proposals regarding such locations by Oct 27.

The CCPO informed the meeting that such cameras had already been installed in the city at 17 places out of the 100 identified locations to curb crime and to check traffic violations.

These cameras could rotate at 360 degrees and were capable of recording every movement, of vehicles and persons, falling within their range, he added.

He further told that installation of cameras had been made possible with the money collected through fines on traffic violations, with the permission of Sindh government.—PPI
