KARACHI: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan was on Wednesday full of praise for the Rangers, saying that people from every segment of society appreaciated their efforts to restore peace to the city and other parts of Sindh during the past few months.

Dr Ibad lauded extraordinary efforts of the paramilitary force that allowed traders and businessmen this year to capitalise on the peaceful environment, said a statement issued from Governor House following his meeting with Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar.

“Pakistan Rangers, Sindh DG Major General Bilal Akbar called on Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan today at Governor House,” said the statement.

“The meeting held a detailed discussion on the law and order situation in Karachi and Sindh. The meeting showed resolve to eliminate terrorists from Karachi and the entire province.”

The governor, according to the statement, put his weight behind the Rangers-led targeted operations which have often drawn strong criticism from his own party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). The statement did not carry other details of the meeting except for the appreciation expressed by the governor in favour of the paramilitary force.

“The law and order situation has improved remarkably during the past few months, which has been recognised by every school of thought in society,” the statement quoted Dr Ibad as saying. “Since Ramazan to this Eid-ul-Azha, traders have capitalised a lot on this improved peace situation. Their business has jumped phenomenally this year compared to previous years.”

The law enforcement agencies, mainly the Rangers, were commended for playing their role in eliminating “the monster of terrorism”, the statement added.

The Rangers DG said it was people’s trust that helped the paramilitary force to achieve the success. “The Pakistan Rangers are putting in their best efforts to respect people’s trust and fulfil their dream of peace,” said the statement.

“The recent success is the result of people’s trust in Rangers. The Rangers soldiers have laid down their lives to bring back peace under the war on terror in line with Zarb-e-Azb.” The statement added that the “war” would continue till the elimination of the last terrorist in the city and the province.
