KOHAT: Students of the boys degree college, Gumbat, blocked the Kohat-Rawalpindi road for over an hour on Friday to protest against stoppage of work on electricity provision to the college. The college is still without electricity though classes started in 2014.

The students criticised the Peshawar Electric Supply Company for not providing electricity to the college though the education department had paid Rs1.6 million in this regard a year ago. Because of no power supply there is no water for drinking and for use in college latrines.

Principal of the college, Mr Tanzeel, told Dawn on Friday that the Pesco had started work after the issue was highlighted in the media a month ago, but stopped it after installing poles and supply lines. He said that Pesco should install a transformer so that power supply could be started.

When contacted, a Pesco official, could not give a satisfactory answer about delay in the project after the payment had been made to the company.
