LAHORE, Oct 18: The Punjab PPP information secretary, Naveed Chaudhry, on Saturday met Germany’s head of division for South Asia Bernd Borchardt and his deputy Heike Dettmann in Berlin, and discussed with them the current political situation in Pakistan.
In a telephonic talk with the local newsmen, Mr Chaudhry quoted the two German officials as informing him that their country would pressure the Pakistan government through the European Union to restore the genuine democratic system.
The PPP leader said there was a dire need to establish a government through national consensus to run the affairs. This government, he said, should hold fresh elections because the polls held under the judiciary or the army had become controversial.
He apprised them of the implications of the LFO and the need to strike it down without delay.
“Considerable time has been devoted to a discussion on the law and order situation in the country, especially after the assassination of Maulana Azam Tariq,” the PPP leader told the officials.
The German officials were also briefed on the cases instituted against former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari.
Mr Chaudhry is expected to return home in the middle of the next month.
