RAWALPINDI, Oct 18: Two senior officials (SPs) of Islamabad police, who were suspended on the orders of the interior minister for failing to control violence after Maulana Azam Tariq’s assassination in the capital, are likely to be reinstated, an official source said.

SP Khalid Khan Khattak and SP (headquarters) Taimoor Ali Khan were serving as the additional SSP and acting SSP, respectively, when the violence broke out. One person was killed and several others were injured, while public property sustained heavy damages during rioting.

Taking notice of the incident, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat suspended the two police officials for their negligence that resulted in the assassination of Millat-i-Islami chief and his four companions, and the violence which followed the incident.
